The Riksdag this week

On Tuesday, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt (Mod) will be answering an interpellation on NATO and the Swedish policy of non-participation in military alliances. On Wednesday, the Riksdag will debate a proposal designed to give immigrants better opportunities in the labour market. On Friday, the Minister for Enterprise and Energy Maud Olofsson will be answering questions on the future of the Swedish pharmaceutical sector and on the merger between the Swedish and Danish Post Offices. On Friday the Government will also be consulting the Committee on EU Affairs.

The Riksdag next week

On Wednesday, there will be a debate on the statement from the Committee on Finance on the EU’s strategy for the future. The Committee would like to see a clearer gender equality perspective. The Committee also considers that the strategy’s employment targets should explicitly apply to both women and men. On Wednesday, a decision will also be taken on whether folk high schools may provide Swedish language teaching for immigrants. On Thursday a decision will be taken on a possible new share issue by SAS AB. On Friday, the Minister Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström will be answering questions on the import of wives by Swedish men. Women’s shelters report that more and more foreign women who marry Swedish men are being badly treated.
