New meeting venue

The Riksdag plans to build a new visitors’ and meeting centre below Riksplan. This is to be able to better present the Riksdag's activities to the public, school classes and tourists, while also meeting requirements for increased security.

In the visitors’ and meeting centre, there will be exhibitions and information giving good opportunities for the public to find out more about ongoing political activities. Today, the Medieval Museum is located in the premises below Riksplan. The Museum will be moving to the Stockholm Stock Exchange Building in the Old Town. The ancient remains, including a medieval defensive wall, will be preserved and integrated into the visitors’ and meeting centre and will, in this way, continue to be accessible to the public.

The Riksdag Administration is well aware of the fact that the medieval city wall that is situated in the premises at Riksplan is of significant historical value. This has been taken into account as an important factor throughout the planning of the Riksplan premises.

The Riksdag Administration owns the main part of the premises in which the Medieval Museum is currently housed. The City of Stockholm rents the premises from the Riksdag Administration and in turn lets the building to the Medieval Museum. The City of Stockholm's rental agreement continues until 31 December 2024.
