The Riksdag is renovating for the future of democracy

Riksdag buildings for the future is the name of the overall programme for the renovation and development of the Riksdag’s various buildings.

The ambition of the Riksdag Administration is to renovate the buildings during the coming 15–20 years. The activities of the Riksdag will continue as usual throughout this period, which is why the renovations are being conducted in stages.

The aim of the Riksdag buildings for the future programme is to adapt the buildings both to the Riksdag of today and of the future. Other objectives include making it easier to visit the Riksdag, creating more efficient premises, taking into account environmental considerations, greater security and accessibility, and lowering costs. The renovations are to be conducted with respect for the buildings’ considerable cultural and historical value.
