More on accessibility

Riksdagen.se must be a website for everyone. If it is to be so, it must also be usable and accessible to all despite personal and technical conditions.

Technical aids

The Riksdag's website and e-services should support technical aids such as the most common screen readers.

Zooming in

You can zoom in on a page to make the content larger. How you do this depends on which browser and which type of unit you are using (computer, mobile telephone, tablet).

Many browsers have a built-in zoom function which you can reach in the menu of your browser. Often, it's also possible to use short cuts, for example holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and moving the wheel on your mouse. On a tablet, you press on an area with two fingers. Then, you move your fingers apart to zoom in or move them together to zoom out.

Navigating with the keyboard

If you have difficulties using a mouse, it is often easier to navigate with the help of the keyboard.

On most browsers you can jump from one link to the next with the help of the Tab key, and activate a link with the Enter or Return key. To jump to the previous link: hold down the Shift key while you press the Tab key.

Most browsers have information about this in their menus.

External links and links to documents

Links connected to another website are opened in the same window. By clicking the back arrow in your browser, you will get back to the Riksdag website.

Document files (for example PDF files) are also usually opened in the same window. Click the back arrow to get back to the Riksdag website.

External links and links to documents have special icons. If you have a screen reader, it will read the information on the different types of links for you.

Browsers

The pages on the website work well on computers, mobile telephones and tablets if you use modern browsers. These can be for example newer versions of Google Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari.

Downloading files

Although PDFs predominate as the most comment document format on the website, there are also other types of documents, for example Word documents. Most documents are also available in html.

Adobe Reader is a common program available free of charge which is used to enable the user to read PDF files. Microsoft Viewer can also be downloaded free of charge. With this programme, you can read Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents.

Printing out web pages

Use your browser's built-in print function if you want to print out a page. In the print-outs, the functions at the top of the page are removed. Certain pages have tabs revealing further pages. A click on the tab will reveal more information. This will also come in the print-out.

Select "preview" in your browser or in the print-out window if you would like to see how the print-out will be before you print out the document or page.

How we work

Working on accessibility includes technology, language and pedagogics. All these parts are important building blocks for the whole process.

  • We place demands regarding accessibility both on ourselves and on the consultants we work together with. We follow current guidelines in this area.
  • We have accessibility experts monitor what we do. We also ask the experts whenever we are uncertain about anything.
  • We continuously collect comments from stakeholder organisations and the general public – from all those with expert knowledge in the field.
  • We test the website on users when we build new components. Those who volunteer to take part in our tests are people both with and without functional impairments.

Our work on accessibility at riksdagen.se is based on the following guidelines and laws:

  • A guide to web development on the website Webbriktlinjer ("Web Guidelines") (in Swedish)
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 on the W3C website
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 on the W3C website (in Swedish)
  • The Act on Access to Digital Public Services (in Swedish)

Report on accessibility
