In the spring, the Government presents its Spring Fiscal Policy Bill to the Riksdag. The Spring Fiscal Policy Bill contains the proposed guidelines for Sweden's economic policy.
Debate on the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill on 15 April 2020. The Minister for Finance Magdalena Andersson (Social Democratic Party) submitted the Government’s Spring Fiscal Policy Bill to the Riksdag. This was followed by a debate with the spokespersons for economic matters from the parties in the Riksdag. The Riksdag starts its work with the central government budget when the Government submits the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill by 15 April at the latest. The Spring Fiscal Policy Bill contains the Government's proposed guidelines for economic policy and budget policy. The Government also makes an assessment of the economic situation and of the projected development of the economy. The Bill also contains proposals on the long-term direction of budget work.
Together with the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill, the Government often also submits a revised budget for the ongoing budget year.
The Riksdag adopts a decision on the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill in June.
The proposed guidelines in the Spring Fiscal Policy Bill form the basis of the forthcoming Budget Bill presented by the Government in the autumn.
