On 11 May, the President of Chile Michelle Bachelet visited the Riksdag as part of her state visit to Sweden. During a ceremony in the Riksdag, the President unveiled a bust of Harald Edelstam. The President then delivered a speech and answered questions from members of the Riksdag.
The Speaker of the Riksdag Urban Ahlin received President Bachelet when she arrived at the Riksdag. Then followed a meeting and talks between the President and her delegation, the Speaker and members of the Riksdag. The agenda included welfare issues, education and gender equality.
In the presence of the King and Queen, the Speaker, the Prime Minister and specially invited guests, a ceremony was then held, during which the bust was unveiled. Harald Edelstam was Sweden's Ambassador in Chile in 1973, and his actions saved the lives of many people. The bust has been donated by the Chilean state to the Riksdag as a token of gratitude for Sweden's support to the Chilean people, and above all for Edelstam's actions.
President Bachelet delivered a speech and then answered questions from the MPs. The speech was broadcast via the Riksdag webcast service and can be watched on demand via the link below.
