The Government is to have the possibility of changing government ownership of Telia when the company carries out a share repurchase programme. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal.

According to the proposal, the Government wishes to approve the fact that Telia reduces its share capital by buying back shares on the stock market and then withdrawing them from the market. Since this may in turn result in government ownership increasing, the Government also wishes to be able to reduce shareholdings to a minimum of the current level of just over 37 per cent. In order to be able to do this, the Riksdag needs to give the Government these powers.

The Riksdag also called on the Government by way of an announcement to review the way in which the state can divest its ownership in Telia in the long term. One of the reasons for this is that the main task of the state is not to own and run companies.
