The Government proposes certain amendments to the Act on social security benefits after the UK leaves the EU. The amendments will only apply if the UK leaves the EU without a valid withdrawal agreement in place.
The amendments mean, among other things, that Swedish social security benefits will continue to be paid to private individuals who are resident in the UK for a transitional period after the UK has left the EU. Private individuals will also be able to receive compensation for healthcare expenses incurred in the UK during the same transitional period.
The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal. The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2020.
