Clearer rules and tougher penalties for research that breaches the ethical rules

27 November 2019 klockan 16.25

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal regarding clearer ethical rules for research relating to human beings. The legislative amendments mean that a research organisation will be liable to take measures to ensure that the organisation only conducts research that has received ethical approval, and that the research lives up to the terms of the approval.

A further amendment is that the lowest penalty for anyone who deliberately conducts research without ethical approval will be increased from imprisonment for six months to imprisonment for two years.

The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2020.
