Taxes are to be reduced for everyone with an income above SEK 40,000 per year from, for example, employment, sickness insurance or a pension. The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal.
This means that taxes will be reduced by up to SEK 1,500 per person and year in 2021. A full tax reduction of SEK 1,500 will be granted to those with incomes of at least SEK 240,000 per year, or SEK 20,000 per month, which corresponds to the income of the lowest collective-agreement bound full-time salaries. In 2022 and 2023, the tax reductions will increase.
The Riksdag also voted in favour of the Government's proposal to extend the period for "expert tax" from three to five years. Expert tax is a form of tax relief applying to experts, researchers and other key persons working on a temporary basis in Sweden.
The new rules will come into force on 1 January 2021.
