The Government has proposed further measures to cushion the impact of the negative effects of the spread of the new coronavirus on society. The proposals include adaptations of the support initiatives that have already been introduced, as well as more effective checks to combat fraudulent use of the initiatives.
The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal on a seventh amending budget which includes:
- Increased support for short-term lay-offs for 1 May - 31 July to enable employees to reduce their working hours to 80 per cent and receive a reduction in salary of 12 per cent, and increased resources to carry out checks of employers who have applied for support measures.
- Temporary removal of the taxation on benefits for free parking at the workplace and gifts to employees amounting to a value of a maximum of SEK 1,000 per month.
- Reduced charge for deferred payment of taxes. The charge is to be lowered to 0.2 per cent of the amount to be deferred and the first six months will be free of charge.
- Greater scope for the exchange of information between different departments at the Swedish Tax Agency for purposes including crime prevention and making decisions on taxation more correct.
The Government's proposals will mean an increase in expenses in the central government budget amounting to a total of SEK 76 billion and a reduction of revenues of SEK 0.4 billion.
The Riksdag also called on the Government by way of an announcement to come back to the Riksdag with a proposal to temporarily abolish the taxation on benefits for free meals and transport to and from work for staff working in the health and care sector.
