The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal to reduce tax for people living in sparsely populated municipalities mainly in Norrland and the north west of Svealand.
The proposal entails a reduction in tax for residents of sparsely populated areas, that is that their tax will be reduced by SEK 1,675 per year. The proposed tax reduction applies to just over 70 municipalities in the counties of Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Jämtland, Gävleborg, Västernorrland, Dalarna,Värmland and Västra Götaland. The purpose of the amendment is to help promote dynamic rural areas and to create improved conditions for people who live and pay tax in sparsely populated municipalities.
The proposal is based on an agreement between the Government, the Centre Party and the Liberal Party. The amendment will come into force on 1 December 2020 and apply retroactively for the whole of 2020.
