Preventive measures to be introduced against domestic violence

9 June 2021 klockan 16.45

Several legislative amendments are to be made with the aim of preventing domestic violence. The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal. For example, the social services and health and medical care services will, under certain conditions, be able to submit information to the Police Authority with the purpose of preventing a serious offence involving violence, violation of a woman's integrity or a sexual offence from being committed.

The decisions can be described as follows:

  • The social welfare committees will be responsible for working to help people who subject or have subjected others close to them to violence or other abuse to change their behaviour.
  • Health and medical care services will take children's need for information, advice and support into special consideration if a parent or another adult living with a child subjects or has subjected the child or another person close to them to violence or other abuse.
  • The social services and health and medical care services will, under certain conditions, be able to submit information to the Police Authority about an individual or someone close to this individual, with the purpose of preventing a serious offence involving violence, violation of a woman's integrity or a sexual offence from being committed.

The amendments will come into force on 1 August 2021. At the same time, the Riksdag rejected some twenty other proposals contained in the motions.
