The Government should review the current travel guarantee system to ensure greater economic protection for travellers. This is the opinion of the Riksdag which has called on the Government by way of an announcement to appoint an inquiry on the matter.
In the opinion of the Riksdag, the ongoing pandemic has highlighted shortcomings in consumer protection as regards travel. The Riksdag considers that a system is needed that gives travellers economic protection when journeys need to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond the operator’s control, and at the same time protects the travel operator from bankruptcy.
The announcement is based on a committee initiative from the Committee on Civil Affairs. This means that it is a committee that has initiated the proposal, and that it does not originate from a government bill or a motion from a member of the Riksdag.
