Greater possibility to restrict freedom of association for groups involved in terrorism

The Riksdag has voted in favour of a constitutional proposal which would mean increased possibilities to restrict freedom of association by means of ordinary law for organisations involved in or supporting terrorism.

The proposal is a constitutional proposal which has been held in abeyance, which means that the Riksdag has taken a decision on the matter on a previous occasion. In order to amend a fundamental law, the Riksdag is required to vote in the same way twice on the proposal and there has to be an election between the votes. The first decision on the proposal was taken on 6 April 2022, and then the Riksdag voted yes.

The amendment will come into force on 1 January 2023.
