Increased initiatives for wetlands

Published: 9 March 2023 at 15.35

The Riksdag has called on the Government by way of an announcement regarding increased initiatives for wetlands. The announcement is based on proposals concerning water management contained in motions from the general private members' motions period in 2022.

The motions concern increased initiatives to protect and restore existing wetlands and to construct new wetlands. In the opinion of the Riksdag, work on this needs to continue and to be strengthened, since wetlands have a great role to play in climate efforts, serving to strengthen biological diversity and counter eutrophication in seas and lakes.

The Riksdag has rejected the other approx. 50 motions from the general private members' motions period in 2022 concerning issues such as eutrophication, cooperation in the Baltic Sea region, waste water management plants and a marine environment act. The Riksdag considers that work is already in progress within the areas raised in these motions.
