SEK 31 billion more to municipalities, regions and other areas this year

Beslut The Riksdag voted in favour of amendments to the central government budget. The amendments will mean that central government expenditure will increase by SEK 31 billion this year.

Beslut The Riksdag considers that the work of the Riksdag during the COVID-19 pandemic should be followed up, and urges the Riksdag Board by way of an announcement to initiate a follow-up.

The debate between party leaders on EU policy at the Riksdag on Wednesday has been cancelled

Press On account of the increasing spread of COVID-19 in Sweden, the Speaker and the party group leaders have discussed whether it is appropriate to hold Wednesday's debate between party leaders on EU policy as planned. Following his consultation with the party group leaders, the Speaker has decided to cancel the debate between party leaders on EU policy.

Additional amending budget: Extended period of compensation for people belonging to high-risk groups

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal on a further additional amending budget in order to mitigate the consequences of the spread of the coronavirus. 

Adapted licence requirements for occupational pension funds

An occupational pension fund is an association that manages its members' occupational pensions. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a risk that some funds will be unable to meet the capital requirements that are necessary to be able to continue to conduct their activities as occupational pension companies.

Seminar on the 75th anniversary of the UN

On 22 October, the Speaker Andreas Norlén hosted a seminar commemorating the 75th anniversary of the UN. The seminar consisted of a dialogue between the Minister for Foreign Affairs, UN experts, members of the Riksdag and diplomats, and dealt with the challenges connected with the UN’s mission.

Temporary change in investment rules for Swedish National Pension Funds (AP Funds) as a result of COVID-19

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal for a temporary change in investment rules for four of the Swedish National Swedish Pension Funds, also known as AP Funds, as a result of COVID-19.

Official visit by the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea

On 29 September, Park Byeong-seug, the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, visited the Riksdag during his official visit to Sweden.

Additional amending budget: increased funding for support to sole traders and other measures

In order to mitigate the social effects of the novel coronavirus, the Government has proposed further measures within the framework of a tenth additional amending budget for 2020. Among other things, increased funding is proposed in order to enable a new form of financial support to sole traders along with an extension of the reorientation support to companies, increased financial support to sport and cultural activities and an extension of certain temporary measures in the field of sickness insurance. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposals.

Focus on health and sustainable development at the IPU's fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament

On 19-20 August, the Speaker Andreas Norlén participated in the Inter-Parliamentary Union's (IPU) fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, which was held virtually.

New provisions on dental care subsidies on account of COVID-19

The Government will be able to make exceptions to the rules on dental care subsidies in cases where there is a risk of the spread of a disease constituting a danger to society, or in connection with other extraordinary events in peace time. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposals.

The period for reporting verification of preliminary support in the case of short-time work to be extended

The Act on support in the event of short-time work will be amended so that the period in which employers may submit a report on verification of preliminary support for short-time work will be extended from two to four weeks. The Riksdag voted in favour of the proposal, which was submitted in the form of a committee initiative.

Additional amending budget: Compensation to high-risk groups and other measures

The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal on a ninth amending budget in response to the coronavirus outbreak which includes compensation to high-risk groups. The Riksdag also called on the Government by way of an announcement to take action regarding the future of Arlanda Airport.

Amended proposal on the EU’s own resources goes beyond what is necessary

The European Commission has presented an amended proposal concerning the system for the EU's own resources. One aspect of the proposal is that the ceiling for the EU's own resources is to be raised. The Riksdag considers that the proposal is in conflict with the principle of subsidiarity, according to which decisions are to be taken as efficiently and as close to the citizens as possible. The Riksdag is sending its views to the EU's decision-making institutions in the form of a reasoned opinion.

New act regarding temporary communicable disease control measures at venues serving food and drink

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal regarding a new act on temporary communicable disease control measures at venues serving food and drink. The act establishes that anyone running a venue that serves food and drink, such as a restaurant, bar or café, is responsible for taking certain measures to prevent the spread of the virus responsible for COVID-19.

Additional amending budget: Yes to reorientation support for companies with reduced turnover

The Government has submitted a proposal with further measures to mitigate the effect on society of the novel coronavirus which is responsible for causing COVID-19. Financial support - reorientation support - is being introduced for companies with reduced turnover owing to the spread of the virus. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposals.

The Government should promptly ensure possibility to examine foreign direct investments

As a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the serious economic situation, Swedish companies in need of capital risk being undervalued. This could lead to increased international interest in direct investments in Swedish companies that are worth protecting. The Riksdag therefore urged the Government by way of an announcement, to promptly present a proposal for measures to make the examination of such investments possible.

Possibility for members to participate remotely in meetings of the parliamentary committees and the Committee on EU Affairs

The Riksdag or the Speaker may decide to grant permission for remote participation in committee meetings if there are exceptional grounds. If the Riksdag or the Speaker have taken such a decision, a committee may allow a member or deputy member to participate remotely in a meeting.
