Sunday 16 September 2018 A general election took place in Sweden on 9 September. It has now been established how the Riksdag's 349 seats shall be distributed among the eight parties after the 2018 general election. Of the members elected to the new Riksdag, 188 are men and 161 are women. The youngest member was born in 1996 and the oldest in 1933.

Monday 10 September 2018 A general election took place in Sweden on Sunday 9 September. The votes are currently being counted again. A final result can be expected at the end of this week. You can see the preliminary election results on the Election Authority website.

Thursday 28 June 2018 On 25 – 27 June, the Speaker Urban Ahlin led a delegation of members of the Riksdag during an official visit to Germany. The agenda included a meeting with the President of the German Parliament (Bundestag) Wolfgang Schäuble.

Monday 25 June 2018 During the summer (25 June–17 August) guided tours of the Riksdag will be held in English on weekdays: Monday to Friday 12 noon and 1, 2 and 3 p.m. From the middle of September until June, while the Riksdag is in session, guided tours for the general public are held on Saturdays and Sundays.

Wednesday 20 June 2018 The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's Spring Fiscal Policy Bill, which contains the Government's proposals for guidelines concerning economic and budget policy.

Wednesday 20 June 2018 The Riksdag Board has decided to put forward a number of proposals in a submission concerning EU work in the Riksdag. The submission is based on the report produced by the all-party committee tasked with examining the Riksdag’s work on EU matters.

Wednesday 20 June 2018 Newly arrived students in the upper years of compulsory school are to receive an individual study plan within two months of starting school. The plan will outline how students are to meet the requirements for upper-secondary school. In addition, such students are to receive an adapted timetable in which subjects required to enter upper-secondary school are given priority.

Wednesday 20 June 2018 A new law is being introduced concerning the responsibilities of contractors' relating to the requirement of employees to have their salary disbursed. An employee who does not receive a salary for work carried out in connection with a building or construction contract must be able to receive payment from another contractor higher up the chain.

Tuesday 19 June 2018 A larger extent of services in the areas of elderly care and preschools are to be provided through the medium of minority languages. The requirements in the proposal apply primarily to the minority languages Finnish, Meänkieli and Sami, but improved opportunities are also being introduced to receive elderly care in Yiddish and Romany Chib. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal.

Wednesday 13 June 2018 The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is to become law in Sweden. The amendments will come into force on 1 January 2020.

Wednesday 13 June 2018 Almost all the penalty provisions in the three laws on terrorism are to be broadened. The purpose of the amendments is mainly to enable the implementation of an EU directive on combating terrorism. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal.

Thursday 7 June 2018 A new possibility for certain unaccompanied minors to acquire residence permits is to be introduced. As a result of this, expenditure limits and appropriations in the central government budget for 2018 are to be amended.

Thursday 7 June 2018 The Riksdag has rejected the Government's proposal to introduce a profit regulation on welfare services. The Government's proposal concerned limiting the claiming of profits in order to strengthen confidence in private actors and confidence in the welfare system in general.

Thursday 31 May 2018 The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal to give the Swedish Police Authority greater scope to conduct workplace inspections, in order to check that employers are not employing people without the right to remain or work in Sweden.

Wednesday 23 May 2018 New legislation on sexual crime based on the principle of consent is to be introduced. The purpose of the legislation is to clarify that every individual has an unconditional right to decide over their own sexual relations. The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposal.

Wednesday 23 May 2018 The Government has submitted several proposals intended to enable more students to commence and complete secondary education. The Riksdag voted in favour of all of the proposals except for one concerning whether some students are to be exempted from certain eligibility requirements for preparatory programmes at upper-secondary school for higher education.

Wednesday 16 May 2018 The Riksdag voted in favour of a cooperation agreement between EU countries and Afghanistan involving partnership and development efforts. However, the Riksdag voted against a private member's motion, that is, a motion raised as a result of the proposal concerning the cooperation agreement.
