Friday 1 September 2017 There will be interpellation debates in the Chamber on 7 September during which Government ministers will answer questions asked by members of the Riksdag. The new parliamentary session, 2017/18, will begin on 12 September. Until the opening of the parliamentary session, the members of the Riksdag will continue their parliamentary business in their home communities. During this time, they have the opportunity to address written questions to Government ministers.

Thursday 31 August 2017 The Speaker Urban Ahlin has reacted to the news of the birth of Prince Carl Philip an Princess Sofia’s son. “It is with great pleasure that I have received the news of the birth of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s second son and I would like to send the whole family my warmest congratulations”, says the Speaker Urban Ahlin.

Wednesday 14 June 2017 The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government's proposal on Swedish participation in the EU naval operation Atalanta. The operation focuses on security in the waters off Somalia's coast.

Wednesday 17 May 2017 It is going to be easier for landowners to reclaim their land when people have settled there without permission. As a result of the Riksdag's decision, a new form of assistance - removal - will be introduced.

Wednesday 26 April 2017 Swedish trade unions are to be given the right to take collective action against workplaces with foreign labour which have not entered into a Swedish collective agreement. This will provide better working conditions for employees who come to Sweden to work here for a limited time. The Riksdag voted yes to the Government's proposal.

Saturday 8 April 2017 The Riksdag is flying its flags at half-mast in connection with what took place in Stockholm on Friday. On 8 April, the Riksdag's flags are to be displayed at half-mast from 8 o'clock in the morning.

Saturday 25 March 2017 The Riksdag Open Day took place on Saturday 25 March. During the day, it was possible to visit the Chamber, meet members of the Riksdag, parliamentary committees and political parties. The programme included a question-and-answer session with MPs and guided tours.

Monday 13 February 2017 A foreign policy debate was held on Wednesday 15 February. The first part of the debate was introduced with the presentation of the Statement of Government Policy on Foreign Affairs by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Wallström (Social Democratic Party). One representative from each party then participated in the initial debate. In the second part of the debate, all members who wished to speak were given the floor. The first part of the debate was interpreted into English and can be viewed via the Riksdag webcast service.

Wednesday 25 January 2017 The wearing of masks at sports events is to be prohibited. Anyone visiting a sports facility, for example for a football match, who either completely or partially covers their face in a way that makes it more difficult to be identified can be sentenced to a fine or imprisonment for at most six months.

Tuesday 10 January 2017 A debate between party leaders was held on Wednesday 11 January. During the debate, the leaders of all the parties represented in the Riksdag had the opportunity to argue in favour of the policies they wish to pursue. Wednesday 14 December 2016 Sweden will continue to participate in the ongoing military training mission in northern Iraq in 2017. This is what has been decided by the Riksdag.

Monday 12 December 2016 On 12 December the Riksdag arranged a seminar with President Juan Manuel Santos, winner of the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize. The theme of the seminar was the peace process in Colombia and the lessons learned from it. The Nobel Laureate's speech was followed by a panel discussion. The seminar was held in English and can be watched via the Riksdag webcast service.

Tuesday 6 December 2016 On 2 December, the Swedish Parliament commemorated the 250th anniversary of the Freedom of the Press Act with a special anniversary book and a seminar on freedom of the press and public access to information in Sweden and Finland. The participants in the seminar included the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Committee on the Constitution, the Minister for Justice Morgan Johansson (Social Democratic Party) and the former president of Finland Tarja Halonen. A number of contributors to the anniversary book also participated in the seminar, including the novelist, journalist and literary critic Agneta Pleijel.

Wednesday 12 October 2016 The Riksdag has approved the Paris Climate Agreement, thereby approving the Government's proposal. This means that Sweden, through the Government, can now ratify the Paris Agreement.
