The Speaker receives the Speaker of the Finnish Parliament

On 9 September, the Speaker Andreas Norlén received the Speaker of the Eduskunta – the Finnish Parliament, Matti Vanhanen, during his official visit to Sweden.

Official visit to Lithuania

On 3-4 September, the Speaker Andreas Norlén made an official visit to Lithuania together with a delegation of members of the Riksdag. The programme included meetings with the Speaker Viktoras Pranckietis, President Gitanas Nausėda, the Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and the Deputy Speaker Gediminas Kirkilas.

On 1 September, the Speaker Andreas Norlén represented Sweden at a ceremony in Warsaw to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War.

The Speaker, Deputy Speakers and group leaders of the Riksdag visited Armenia and Georgia

Each electoral period the Speaker, Deputy Speakers and party group leaders make a joint visit abroad. This time, the delegation paid official visits to Armenia and Georgia on 26-29 August.

Official visit to Slovenia

On 25 – 27 June, the Speaker Andreas Norlén led a delegation of members of the Riksdag on an official visit to Ljubljana, Slovenia. The programme included meetings with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia Dejan Židan, President Borut Pahor, the Prime Minister Marjan Šarec and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Miro Cerar.

The Speaker invites you to seminars and the Riksdag stand at Almedalen

The Speaker Andreas Norlén will inaugurate the Almedal Week in Visby and would like to invite you to a number of seminars and coffee at the Riksdag stand. The Speaker will also present a travelling exhibition on the advent of democracy.

The Riksdag says yes to the Government's spring revised budget for 2019

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposals in the spring revised budget for changes to revenue and expenditure for 2019, as well as amended use of appropriations.

Official visit by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia

The Speaker Andreas Norlén received the President of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan with his delegation on an official visit to Sweden on 10–13 June.

Measures to help British citizens in Sweden in the event of a no-deal Brexit

The Government has proposed certain legislative amendments to make it easier for British citizens living in Sweden in the event that the UK leaves the EU without a deal in place. The Riksdag supports and says yes to the Government's proposal. The new rules will come into force on 15 July 2019.

On 4 – 5 June, the Speaker Andreas Norlén led a delegation of members of the Riksdag on an official visit to the Norwegian Parliament – the Storting in Oslo.

The Speaker’s ceremonial speech on the Swedish National Day

The Speaker Andreas Norlén held his ceremonial speech at the National Day celebrations at Skansen on 6 June 2019. The programme also included performances by artists, the Swedish National Anthem and the handing out of flags and banners.

Tax reductions for donations to non-profit organisations re-introduced

The Riksdag voted in favour of reintroducing tax reductions for donations to non-profit organisations. This means that the procedure for approval of recipients of donations associated with this will also be reinstated, but without the previous application and annual fees.

Certain provisions relating to the budget process should be reviewed

The Riksdag considers that the time-constrained budget process during the autumn of 2018 has given rise to a number of questions about the budget process after elections and the limited time frame available for preparation and decisions in the Riksdag.

On 9 May, the Speaker Andreas Norlén participated in a Europe Day event at Stockholm Central Station, which was arranged in the run-up to the coming elections to the European Parliament.

The Riksdag critical of EU proposal on changes to decision-making in tax policy

The European Commission proposes a gradual shift to qualified majority voting in tax policy decisions. The Riksdag is very critical of the European Commission's proposal.

The Riksdag approves Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between the EU and Armenia

The Riksdag has approved the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between the EU, its member states and Armenia, and has thus voted in favour of the Government's proposal.

Fewer judges are to be required to decide on extradition

The Riksdag voted in favour of the Government's proposed legislative amendments stating that fewer judges in the Supreme Court shall be required to decide on extradition. Such an extradition shall apply for a person who is suspected, charged or convicted for a crime in another country and who is in Sweden.
