Police are to be given powers to search for weapons in security zones

The Riksdag has voted in favour of amendments to the Police Act. According to the amendments, the police will be given extended powers to carry out body searches and to search transport for weapons or other dangerous objects within a certain area.
The proposal means that the Police Authority will be able to introduce security zones, with the purpose of more effective prevention of shootings and explosions in conflicts among criminals.
