Parliamentary NATO summit

On 8–9 July, a parliamentary summit will take place in Washington, USA. From the Riksdag, Karin Enström (Moderate Party), Chair of the delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, will be participating.

The NATO summit will be held in Washington D.C. on 9–11 July 2024. The day before, the presiding officers of the US Congress together with the US delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will be arranging a parliamentary summit. The speakers of the parliaments of the NATO member states and the chairs of the national parliamentary NATO delegations are participating in the summit. During the summit meeting, Karin Enström will be holding an address on behalf of the Speaker Andreas Norlén. The NATO Secretary-General will participate in the reception which will introduce the meeting on the evening of 8 July.

Background

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is a forum for parliamentarians from the NATO member states, which now number 32 since Sweden’s entry into NATO in March 2024. The Assembly meets at two annual meetings, known as sessions. The activities then take place partly at plenary meetings and partly in five committees.
