The Riksdag is an open parliament and everyone who wants to can visit public debates and events or take part in a guided tour. Here you will find information about step-free entrances, technical aids such as hearing loops, and how to book a guided tour with sign language interpretation.
Most of the Riksdag's premises are located in older buildings of significant architectural, cultural and historical value, which means adaptations often pose a challenge. The Riksdag Administration takes ongoing measures to improve accessibility, for example, by adapting more of its entrances and toilets, installing more automatic door-openers and adding more edge highlighters on stairs.
Wheelchair access for visitors to the Riksdag
The Riksdag has several different entrances and most of them have been adapted to make them accessible. You can follow public seminars and various events here in the buildings. There is lift access throughout the buildings, which means that you can take part in all guided tours. See below for further information about accessible entrances.
Visiting the Riksdag with visual impairments
The Riksdag is taking ongoing measures to add more edge highlighters to stairs in the buildings, and the lifts have information in Braille. There is also a tactile model of the Riksdag buildings which is included on the route of many guided tours.
To the Chamber and guided tours
The Public Entrance is at Riksgatan 3, and this is the entrance, for example, for debates in the Chamber and for guided tours.
From this entrance, there are accessible lifts which take you up to the Public Gallery of the Chamber where you can watch everything that is going at the rostrum.
Guided tours of the Riksdag
Everyone is welcome to participate in our drop-in guided tours, or to book a group tour of the Riksdag. In addition to tours for the public, we offer tours for school classes. For further information:

To public events in the Chambers
The entrances Norrbro 1A and IB are also step-free. These entrances are used for visitors to the former First and Second Chambers.
Many of the events that are open to the public are held in the former First and Second Chamber. The public hearings that the committees hold normally take place in one of these two locations. Everyone is welcome to follow these events here at the Riksdag.
To the Skandia Room
A number of public events are held in the Skandia Room. Among other things, the Committee on European Affairs' consultations with the Government are held here, and these are open to the public.
The entrance for access to the Skandia Room is Mynttorget 1. This entrance is also accessible.
Hearing loops in the premises
The following premises are fitted with hearing loops:
- The Chamber
- The former First Chamber
- The former Second Chamber
- The Skandia Room
- The Press Centre
Mobile hearing loops are also available for use during guided tours.
Sign language interpretation
Major debates in the Chamber are normally interpreted into sign language. This applies, for example, to debates between party leaders and the annual foreign policy debate. Information about which debates are interpreted into sign language can be found in the calendar.
The calendar (in Swedish)
If you wish to take part in a guided tour at the Riksdag and would like to book a sign language interpreter, you can do so via the booking service:
The telephone is manned on Tuesdays–Thursdays between 9 and 11 a.m. The phone is closed during the Christmas and New Year holiday period and between June 27 and August 5.
Toilets
Many of the toilets in the Riksdag are accessible to all. This means that they are spacious and the toilet seats have been changed from white to black seats. This makes it easier to orientate oneself as the rest of the toilet is white. Guides and other officials can show the way to accessible toilets.
